LACES girls varsity tennis (0-6) faced a challenging matchup against the Palisades Dolphins and lost their game.
One of the standout performances of the day was from the doubles match, sophomores Cirus Dodd & Clementine Petty. Together they managed to win 8-3 against Palisades. Dodd had a nice serve and it was returned quickly by the dolphins, Petty controlled the ball with a backhand. The ball was then returned back and Cirus angled a shot to the far right corner, catching the dolphins off guard earning the match point.
Riley Kim, a Junior, who played a singles match lost 8-3. She reflected on her game saying, “I want to get better on my serves but also my returning serves as well.”
The team has been facing some challenges in their training schedule. The players had not been able to practice as efficiently due to the absence of their coach, Mr.Chung, who has been out recovering from a broken arm. Without his guidance the team has had to adapt and rely on their own initiative to keep on improving and practicing. Despite these setbacks, the hard work they’ve put in seems to be paying off little by little.
Majority of players like Dood have been taking matters into their own hands, working on themself to improve despite their coach not being available sophomore, Cirus Dodd said, “We were playing with six people on one court, someone on the net and two people on both sides, I think that is something that helped.”
Although LACES lost against Palisades their next game will be October 2, against the Hamilton Yankees.
