New semester, new year, and as announced – a new Club Rush. The club rush is an opportunity for any and all clubs to present themselves to new possible members. It takes place in the zone and features foldable tables side by side with posters or a token representing one’s club. Club Rush only occurs once during the Fall Semester but as decided by leadership, another one is taking place during the Spring Semester. As the first year with a second club rush, the event is split up into three days with six different categories: Identity & Community Service, Leadership & Hobby, and Health & Sports.
Sofia Raufman, president of the Let Girls Learn club said “I think that [the second Club Rush] is a good opportunity to get new members” “We’ve gained a lot of new members.”
The Black Student Union also presented their club on Tuesday. Jayla Turner, Historian, said “When we first heard about the second Club Rush, we were mostly surprised because this is the first time it’s happened before. Doing another one at the beginning of the second semester seemed fun though, because it’s a [perfect time to reintroduce clubs” They also gained 12 new club members. “I think that this should be a recurring event. A few new students come to LACES after the Club Rush, along with those who maybe were not able to join the club they wanted during the first Club Rush” said Turner.
On Wednesday, Dylan Dharwadkar, the president of the Robotics club said “This Club Rush only got us about 5 or 7 members. I think personally, for us, we don’t need two Club Rushes because we’re in the middle of our season right now,” However, he said, “I think for other clubs it’s a great opportunity to grow and it renews interest in club activities. So I think all together it’s a really good idea”.
Naomi Patel, a member of LACES Leadership said “Doing a second Club Rush allows the opportunity to re-engage with the student body. It gives students a chance who didn’t get a chance the first semester to check out clubs they might’ve missed, or wished they had joined”. She also said, “We plan to make it a recurring thing. This is the first year we’ve done it but we’re kind of setting a precedent for the following years”
Aaron Baskin, the Leadership adviser, said that “The second club rush [was] to give students more opportunities to join clubs for second semester and give clubs an opportunity to publicize themselves to the student body.” He continued, saying, “It feels good to have clubs showcase themselves and for students to get opportunities to have more opportunity to join clubs they are interested in.”
