On April 4, LACES students voted for their new student body, and grade-level government officers for the 2025-26 school year. Since you may have been distracted by recent events, including AP testing, this is a chance for you to get to know your student body and grade level representatives a little better. The student body government such as the President, Vice President, and Secretary will focus on school-wide issues as well as the planning of events, rallies, spirit weeks, and being the voice for the entirety of the student body; while grade level representatives will work more directly with their class, hosting things like graduation events, class fundraisers, and the organization of events, all while making sure your class and its students feel represented in the school. Each person elected, whether a new or familiar face, has a shared commitment to bettering the student body and working in its interest. Elected by their peers, these leaders intend to lead, represent, and bring the LACES community together.
Sammie Wittenberg (President):
LACES Junior Sammie Wittenberg wants to shape the school into more of a connected environment and is ready to lead. As student body president, it is her goal to make the LACES community feel valued, seen, and a part of something bigger. She hopes to build on the idea of a valued and together community.
“I’m excited about this new role, and you know, I’m gonna try my best and hope that I can be an approachable person and if people are having specific opinions or feelings or just anyone they wanna talk to about all things LACES, I would love to be that person,” said Wittenberg.
In recent years, she has grown to value and connect with the community and hopes to be able to spark that same experience for others as well. She is passionate about making the school inclusive and making sure that our diverse and unique student body is represented. With help from the rest of the Student Body Government, Sammie is confident and very excited to take on this new role and wants to thank the student body for electing her. She ended with a message to those who supported her through campaign week.
“Get lit, vote Wit, thank you for voting on it,” said Wittenberg.
Jack Stutz (Vice President)
Jack Stutz was elected for student body vice president. He strives to be an easy-going, sociable person that enjoys connecting with his community.
“I wanna create a super bonded and inclusive environment here at LACES and be as much of a help and a backbone to the leadership class as well as, you know, the president and other cabinet members,” said Stutz.
Wanting to make a bigger impact on the school, is what inspired Stutz to run. With three years of leadership experience, Stutz decided that he wanted to expand his leadership role.
“I wanted to have, you know, more of an impact, make more of a difference, and be able to, you know, like, give back to the community and make this school as good as it can be,” Stutz said. He is passionate about the role he has been elected for and has a final message for the student body.
“I’m freaking hyped. I’m ready to go. I’m seriously ready to put in the effort, and I’m super glad I got this role, and I am super passionate about it. And, you know, I’m gonna work to the best of my ability to, you know, fulfill my promises and the claims that I’ve made” said Stutz.
Sadie Tankel (Secretary)
LACES junior Sadie Tankel was elected as student body secretary. She started off by sharing her plans for next year
“As student body secretary, I would hope to make sure everyone’s voices and opinions are heard, and, you know, that LACES becomes a more inclusive, comfortable, and welcoming place for all students of any grade level,” Said Tankel.
Tankel has a huge passion for this school and decided it was time she gave back. She had a fun and competitive campaign week which allowed her to establish some new and valuable relationships with different students from all over the school that she normally wouldn’t have talked to. Her goal is to be approachable and welcoming to all students of all grade levels.
“I think I can speak for all of us when I say please feel free to come talk to us if you need anything at all you know, please come talk to us if you wanna make anything happen, and, we all are going to try our best, and do our best and, you know, all of that. All good stuff,” said Tankel.
Dominic Patel (Treasurer)
Dominic Patel, a junior here at LACES, was elected as student body Treasurer. His goals are to assure that student events are prioritized and making sure next year is an exciting and fun year for all students.
“I’ve been at LACES since sixth grade, and every year, I’ve had a great time. I feel like by being student body a treasure, I can finally, like, give back and do my part and make sure people have the same experiences that I did,” said Patel.
As treasurer, Patel plans on holding fundraising events that can encourage and help different students with whatever they are trying to accomplish whether it’s raising money for sports or even clubs. During campaign week Patel also tried his best to be proactive and connect with students of all grades. He put himself out there and talked to people he normally wouldn’t have talked to and like everyone else in the cabinet, he made himself approachable through the week and will continue to do so throughout his time as student body treasurer.
“Super excited, super ready to go, and just ready to work and ready to fulfill these goals and dreams and aspirations. I’m excited to take on this new role, and I’m ready to prioritize my duties as student body treasurer,” he said.
Willa Queen-Yglesias (Historian)
[Editor’s Note: Willa Queen-Yglesias is part of the LACES Untied editorial staff.]
Willa Queen-Yglesias, a member of the LACES Untied staff, was elected as student body Historian for the 25-26 school year. She presents as creative, hardworking and friendly. With her new position she plans on presenting the years of 2025-26 as much as possible by getting insight on different grades, clubs, and events to make sure everyone feels seen and appreciated as a school. With three years of leadership experience, Queen-Yglesias decided this role would be a good match for her considering her passion for taking photos.
“I love taking pictures. I don’t know. I really like having the ability to make it my own,” said Queen-Yglesias.
During her time as historian, Queen-Yglesias wants to make kids feel comfortable being showcased as a part of the LACES community.
“I know a lot of people aren’t comfortable with pictures of themselves but I hope that this year, they know who I am and feel more comfortable,” she said.
Queen-Yglesias has promised to fill these new priorities to the best of her ability. Her final message to the student body expresses her commitment to making every LACES student feel included.
“Thank you for nominating me as your historian and if anybody has anything that they want to talk about or include on the Instagram, feel free to reach out,” said Queen-Yglesias
While the main student body government will do their job of caring for the needs of all LACES students, these electees have been chosen as the leaders for their own grade-levels.
