In between the years of 2023-2024, nearby high schools like Hamilton High School, Fairfax High School, and John Burroughs Middle School have been granted huge campus construction projects. These high schools that are listed undertook modernization projects.
According to an article in the Larchmont Chronicle, John Burroughs Middle School is in progress of finalizing a three story building comprising of 24 classrooms.
From the start of 2022 to the end of 2024, LACES had repairs done on the campus. For one, the student store was minimally reconstructed concerning the roof and student store interior area. Not only this, but the blue building roofs were repaired as well. Both of these buildings were considered condemned by the LAUSD and needed repairs to function properly.
According to an article written by the LA Times, there was a 20 year long project to improve a substantial amount of LAUSD school campuses. The project just finished with 131 projects on LAUSD campuses. Most had modernization projects and some had repairs done.
“There´s some bonds that are called modernization funding and that’s a lot more money. We have not been approved or are on any list for modernization,” said LACES principal Ms. Kimberly Lesure.
Every LAUSD school on the list had funds granted, which are determined by the LAUSD board. The board sends evaluators to determine what projects are needed. The LAUSD evaluator that came by determined LACES only needed a little over 1$ million dollars to repair our student store and blue building roofs.
¨Our buildings have not been deemed to the point of repair where they need to be torn down and rebuilt like some of the other schools,” said Ms. Lesure.
While LACES hears all about these other schools and their extensive construction, LACES is not on the LAUSD list for construction evaluation rather than funding. While schools like John Burroughs Middle School get a new three-story building along campus expansion, LACES had their construction with the student store and building roofs. That is all that is necessary for the LACES campus.
LACES will have to adjust to the current campus because it will not be changing at all in the foreseeable future.
