With Thanksgiving coming up, we should all be thinking about how thankful we are for our hardworking and driven teachers. We are also very excited for the dishes that we will be having on thanksgiving day as well! Today we will find out what dish three of our amazing LACES teachers would be on the Thanksgiving table. AP Biology teacher and Peer Helping advisor Mr. Irving Contreras is a student favorite teacher known for his dad jokes and eclectic music taste. His Thanksgiving dish would be pumpkin pie.
“My ideal day off would include me spending time with the kids and walking my dog,” said Contreras.
He appreciates sweetness and quality time which makes pumpkin pie a perfect dish for him, simple and thoughtful. Pumpkin Pie is a popular Thanksgiving dessert, but it requires a lot of hard work to prepare.
“Three words to describe me would be empathetic, hard working and tenacious,” said Contreras.
Contreras is extremely hardworking and a great teacher. He helps his students get to where they want to be but with a lot of work required but in the end it pays off.
“If I had to choose a favorite color, it’d be purple. Purple is a combo of red and blue. I associate blue with calmness and relaxation. Red is like, angry or anxious or agitated, and those two colors combine to mellow you out”, said Contreras.
“My favorite items in my house are my guitars,” said Contreras.
He enjoys playing music during class, making the classroom comforting and sweet, just like pumpkin pie. Overall, Contreras is a hardworking and caring teacher and out of all of the many Thanksgiving foods, he would be pumpkin pie. PE teacher and swimming and water polo coach Ms. Sherry Stewart is another amazing teacher here at LACES. She pushes her students and athletes to their fullest potential while still having a fun and meaningful time. Her most fitting Thanksgiving food would be mashed potatoes.
“My ideal day off would be a spa day that includes a massage, pedicure, brunch and hanging out with friends and family,” said Stewart.
Her ideal day is quite relaxing but also very enjoyable and fun. Although mashed potatoes aren’t the main dish of the Thanksgiving dinner, they are still a fan favorite and enjoyed by many, much like a spa day.
“My favorite color is purple, not just one shade of purple, the many different shades of purple,” she said.
Mashed potatoes can come in many different forms such as whipped, white, yellow, or sweet potato, just like how purple can come in many different shades. Stewart is able to teach many different sports from swimming to tumbling. Her teaching styles and what she teaches come in many different ways, just like mashed potatoes. Stewart’s favorite items in her house are her pictures. Pictures are simple items, but they hold so much sentimental value. Mashed potatoes are a simple dish, but are loved by so many. Stewart is a thoughtful, fun and eccentric teacher, making mashed potatoes perfect for her.
Ms. Jasmin Kim is our wonderful librarian here at LACES known for providing a comforting classroom environment for students in the library and of course giving great book recommendations. Kim’s Thanksgiving dish would be the stuffing.
“My perfect day off would start with waking up late, possibly after 8 am and staying in bed for like an additional two hours, just like scrolling through my phone and reading reading, and just like playing on my playing on my phone,” said Kim.
She enjoys being comfortable and relaxed which correlates to the dish stuffing because it is a hearty and comforting food enjoyed on Thanksgiving.
“My favorite color is blue, just because I like things that are really like the ocean really. I hate the actual ocean, but the concept of the ocean is very nice,” she said.
Many people do not like the stuffing in the turkey on Thanksgiving but enjoy the stuffing itself, which relates to how Kim likes things that are ocean related, but not the actual ocean itself.
“My favorite item is my computer because it’s just fun to use and there are many things to do with it,” said Kim.
This shows that she enjoys having a comfortable environment. Stuffing is made with many different ingredients and spices and it can be eaten and prepared in many different ways just like how Kim can explore and do many different things on the computer. She likes to be comfortable, relaxed, and calm, which makes the comforting and familiar dish of stuffing her perfect. We have so much to be grateful for this Thanksgiving season, and it is especially important to remember how lucky we are to have all of our amazing teachers and LACES staff. The Thanksgiving dinner would not be complete without every single dish, just how LACES would not be complete without every single teacher. So as you enjoy your holiday take a moment to be thankful for our wonderful teachers and staff members that work hard to prepare every ingredient for our success.
