Fro-yo is always in season. It’s the perfect sweet treat for after a super hard test or celebration. Like numerous toppings, there are numerous different froyo shops. With so many fro-yo spots to choose from, Untied took it upon ourselves to see which ones really live up to the hype. We went to two popular places around LA: The Bigg Chill and Go Greek. Rating them based on taste, toppings, price and overall vibe, here is where you should cool down next.
The Bigg Chill
The Bigg Chill has been around for a while, exactly 39 years. It’s 16 minutes away from LACES—not too shabby of a drive. With only one location, The Bigg Chill has a unique, old fashioned vibe that makes your froyo experience like a blast from the past. Most of their flavor options are low-cal friendly, with their special “Fat Free Flavors,” and even dairy-free options. What caught our attention immediately is the enormous mounds of cookie dough at the counter. Not only did they have regular cookie dough, but so many other variations for all types of people—vegan cookie dough and all other things vegan. The Bigg Chill is known for their cookie dough but also has many more amazing toppings like fresh fruits to granola, these help it keep your sweet treat healthy or go all out. Pricewise, The Bigg Chill is much different than your typical fro-yo store. Instead of weighing your cup, you are charged by the size. A small, 6 oz is $6.50, medium, 8 oz is $7.00, large, 12 oz is $8.00, a pint, 16 oz is $9.50 and lastly a quart, 32 oz is $11.50. We got vanilla and cookies & cream swirl with strawberries, chocolate chip cookie dough.
Flavor: 8/10
Topping: 8/10
Price: 8/10
Overall we would rate The Bigg Chill an 8/10! This place might not be your typical fro-yo place, but you should definitely give it a try! The fro-yo was creamy and delicious with amazing toppings overflowing the cup. Definitely a bang for your buck!
Go Greek
Secondly, we had Go Greek. This place is unlike any of the other ones we have tried. The vibe at Go Greek is very aesthetically pleasing, filled with a beautiful blue and white Mediterranean style. This place has been around for 13 years, and having the first store open right here in LA! Go Greek has not as many locations as Yogurtland, only two, the nearest one being 20 minutes away from LACES. Not only do they have fro-yo, but they also have fresh yogurt. The fro-yo makes it feel like you’re eating such a good dessert without feeling guilty afterwards, filled with lots of protein and many probiotics. Like your typical fro-yo place the prices vary based on weight. Flavours vary every week but also have flavors like Plain Tart, Greek Honey, Vanilla and Chocolate that stay all year round. They even have vegan friendly options made out of coconut milk. Toppings there are pretty basic but on the healthier side, from nuts to fresh fruits and organic gummy bears here is definitely something for everyone. We got chocolate and vanilla swirl and the seasonal mango topped with fresh strawberries, cacao nibs, mochi, gummy bears and yogurt covered pretzels.
Flavour: 9/10
Topping: 6/10
Price: 8/10
Overall we rate Go Greek an 8/10. The perfect place to get a healthy sweet treat. The fro-yo is made out of authentic Greek Yogurt which makes it taste tangier than your usual fro-yo but just as good, and I might say even better.
Out of these two places, we recommend going to Go Greek since it offers a different type of experience than other typical froyo places and has affordable prices. Go Greek lets you have an even healthier alternative to froyo. The flavours are always changing weekly and even have vegan and dairy free options. Go Greek might not be a blast from the past like The Bigg Chill but it’s reliable, has a great aesthetic and is a great place to go for your next Fro-yo run.
