Autumn is one of the best seasons of the year, or at least that is what I think. It has always been one of my favorite times of the year. Its relaxed mood hits just right. Fall is a time of reflection, a time when the world begins to slow down for winter’s cold embrace, which is why I love it so much. Fall is great for several reasons, the vibrant warm colors of the leaves, its relaxed atmosphere and holidays like Halloween, and Thanksgiving. Fall brings a rare kind of smile to my face, the kind that comes from seeing the pure majesty of nature.
The thing that most of the students at LACES probably associate with autumn is going back to school after summer vacation, which I agree is a valid reason to not like the season. But going back to school is just a small event not really related to the season. Also, going back to school isn’t all bad. Seeing your friends again after summer break is amazing, and it is what many look forward to in the fall. I remember the first day of school last year was amazing, I was really excited to see my friends again after the summer.
The first thing someone may think about when they picture fall is probably fallen leaves on the ground. This mix of soft and warm colors is a sight to behold. Sure, it might be a chore to rake the leaves, but it still is a beautiful natural sight. Fall is like smooth jazz. It’s like warm honey and cinnamon to the senses. Fall doesn’t need to get anywhere in a hurry, it just goes at its own pace, and that’s just fine. Fall gives a sort of soft lethargy to everything, making it easy to relax and bundle up underneath blankets while drinking something warm and watching a cozy movie. This is what makes fall amazing for me, it is a time to take it slow, and for that I am thankful.
Fall isn’t just about the atmosphere. There are two major holidays that stick out to me. Halloween, is well known for its excessive amounts of sugar filled candy. Everyone has had at least one good memory of a Halloween, whether that be from trick-or-treating or from watching a scary movie. My personal favorite is “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” One of my favorite memories from Halloween was when I pulled out an electric keyboard that I had, and then I sat outside playing scary music as trick-or-treaters walked up. On the other hand Thanksgiving is a much calmer holiday, but still an excuse to feast upon a decadent meal and to grow closer to your loved ones. One of my favorite memories from Thanksgiving, is when I went up to Chicago with my family to do a Thanksgiving party with their friends. The day after the party, we drove to the small town where my mom grew up to visit her parents, and have a slightly less extravagant dinner with her side of the family. Even though this all happened roughly seven years ago, I still remember it clearly and fondly.
Fall has something for everyone, and all of its merits combine and compliment each other, making a marvelous meal for the senses. I look forward to the season every year and it always brings a smile to my face. Fall might not be everyone’s favorite season, but it brings a smile to my face, and hopefully a smile to yours as we
